  1. Leaders’ Preferences on Quality vs. Quantity: There is a 60/40 split among leaders, with 60% preferring quantity over quality. Interestingly, senior leaders tend to prioritize quantity even more than those at lower levels, with only 28% of top management focusing on quality.

Geographical and Gender Differences: European and Canadian leaders have a stronger preference for quantity compared to U.S. leaders, while Central/South American leaders are more quality-focused. Statistically, men slightly favor quantity more than women, although the difference is small (64% vs. 58%).
  3. Functional Differences in Priorities: Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, and Operations are more quantity-oriented, while Safety, Facilities, Administrative, and Legal focus more on quality due to the financial and reputational risks associated with mistakes.
  4. Effectiveness of Quantity vs. Quality Leaders: Leaders who prioritize quantity are perceived as more effective across levels because they balance both high quality and large-scale production. Quality-oriented leaders are generally seen as less effective, likely due to their tendency to slow down to avoid errors.
  5. The False Trade-Off Between Quality and Quantity: Effective organizations, including senior leadership, increasingly recognize that quality and quantity are not opposing goals. They can coexist through improved processes like inspections and higher standards, allowing both high-quality output and large-scale production without sacrificing speed.
